My name is Kymbeerly Irizarry. I am a freshman here at CGS, Boston University. I came here because it had a focus of not only community, and good rankings, and good education, but also I just felt at home. I love people who are willing to stand up for what they believe in, and you definitely saw that here in the students. I didn't see people just trudging to class to get a degree so they could be professionals; I saw people who were going to class to be advocates of change. My extracurriculars this year have really shaped my thinking. I wouldn't have been able to connect with a community service group and do these type of efforts if it wasn't for BU.
I got a very good financial aid and scholarship package, and I'm so grateful for it—that there was someone who actually thought I was worth it—wow. It makes me even more motivated, because I want to show them that I'm worth it. I'm the first one in my family to go to college here in America. This is my chance to be someone.
I want to be one of those alumni that BU can be like, "We gave her a chance, and she definitely showed us that she could do something. She was able to cause change." And yeah, that's what I really want to do. I want to thank them with my future.
