Hello I’m Adam Possamai. I’ve been a Sociologist of Religion for almost 20 years and I will be teaching in the Religion and Society specialisation within the Master of Social Sciences. The Master of Social Sciences is designed to equip students with skills in Social Theory and Social Mythologies and the specialisation in Religion and Society will help students to not only do Research on Religion but to understand what's happening into this world with regards to religion and spirituality. The the specialisation is strongly focused on contemporary aspects of religion in Australian in a Multi-Faith Society and dealing with issues that are happening today so this specialisation is strongly focused in a Social Scientific study of Religion which includes disciplines of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Geography and this Masters is really tailored for that type of study so this is not about a Theology course or historical course or comparative study of religions, it's really a Social Scientific study of religion. This Master and this specialisation is designed for students who wants to know more about Religion, who wants to develop skills in Social Theory and Social Research Methods and they can use those skills to work in Local, State, Federal Government. In NGO’s or for those Religious Professionals wanted to get expertise in Social Scientific Research in Religion, they can bring those those skills back into the Community so this specialisation is for religious professionals, Religious people or even non religious people who have an interest in developing Social Scientific Research and Theoretical skills to this study of Religion. This new course with this new specialisation is not only located at the University of Western Sydney, it's also located in the Greater Western Sydney which is one of the most multi-faith society in the whole world and studying this Master in this locality at this University has a strong advantage to anyone wants to understand multi-faith societies and understand how religious groups can live together and how Religious diversity can be celebrated.
